"If  I weren't a reggae artist I'd be drafting architectural plans",  says Cobra (a.k.a (Ewart Brown).  This would be an especially fitting second profession for an artist who has built his musical career on a strong foundation of internationally charted hits.  With such foundation supporting him,  Cobra feels "the sky's the limit.

Cobra was born in Kingston,  Jamaica and raised in Portmore, where he currently resides.  Against his parents' wishes, he was introduced  to this business at a very tender age by his uncle who was a chief engineer at Bob Marley's studio, Tuff Gong.

After recording his first single, Cobra's opportunity to become an artist was derailed when hurricane Gilbert caused havoc upon Jamaica and it's economy halting any momentum his budding career might have gained.  He then decided to concentrate on his academic education putting his musical career on hold.

Cobra's passion for music was so overwhelming that in 1990, Dave and Tony Kelly (two of Reggae's renowned producers) recognized this and gave him the opportunity to record at Penthouse Recording Studios.  Utilizing the time between scheduled session, his second single was produced.  As Cobra puts it, "that is where things started".

In 1992 Columbia Records added Cobra to their roster and released "FLEX" his mega hit single which was inspired by a television commercial for Soloflex, "I saw a lady on the Soloflex machine  and thought , waah,  she flexing like she wants to have sex!"

1993 was particularly exciting for Cobra.  Not only did his single rocked to platinum status but he was honored by the American Society for Composers, Authors and Publishers when "Flex" was listed on the Top Ten R&B Music Charts.

Fans of both R&B and Reggae were blessed in 1996, the year Cobra contributed his hyped vocals to the remix version of Toni Braxton's multi-platinum hit "You're Making Me High" selling over 10 million records.

Cobra has received world-wide exposure  performing both  on tours and televisions shows such as the 1993 American Music Awards along with Gloria Estefan, Mary J. Blige and Boyz II Men.  He has also performed on Soul Train and the now defunct Arsenio Hall Show.  Recently, the television news magazine 20/20  filmed a session at Sony Recording Studios with Cobra and John Forte as the two were producing one of Cobra's upcoming releases.

The past few years were spent touring, with frequent stops in the studio to record singles.  "I've toured the entire United States, Caribbean,  Japan, Europe, Africa wherever the fans want me, I'll travel".

Cobra has also debut his acting career in the movie "Brooklyn Babylon"  which features other fellow artists such as Slick Rick and Black Thought (of the Roots).  This film is scheduled to be released in 2001.  While his legion of fans eagerly await the  release of his album self-titled "COBRA" (a unity of R&B, Hip-hop and Reggae),  they can enjoy  several of Cobra singles currently burning up the charts.

"Right now  I'm focused on work and the advancement of my career.  There are no boundaries for me.  The greatest thing to me is to entertain." concludes Cobra.
